ABOUT
Ndarakwai Ranch is named by the Maasai after an indigenous species of cedar tree. In 1995, Peter Jones (owner) took on board the commitment to restore the rangeland with the long-term hope that wildlife populations would rebound. The impacts of his consistent efforts have been profound. With trees and vegetation protected, there is now less run-off after the rains, the water table has risen and grass resources improved. Removing the large herds of cattle allowed the grasslands to flourish, and there has been an increase in the variety of grass species now found on the Ranch. Due to these changes, wildlife has moved back onto Ndarakwai. Today, elephant, zebra, eland, giraffe, wildebeest, buffalo, lesser kudu, mountain reedbuck and bushbuck are just a few of the animals that call Ndarakwai home. This privately owned ranch preserves a variety of habitats that are now home to over 70 mammal species, and 300 bird species to date. It is also an important part of the Amboseli / Ngasurai Eco-system and helps preserve seasonal elephant routes.

THINGS TO DO
Walking Safari
This is the purest form of safari, you become part of your environment and the wilderness becomes more real. Walking safari at the ranch is completely different from game drives. On foot, you are a participant in the world of wildlife rather than a spectator, which is a thrilling experience. Getting up close and personal with wildlife is definitely a rush of excitement. Walking is also a great way to appreciate the smaller wildlife, which can’t be so easily seen from a vehicle.
Bush Meals
There is an opportunity to savor a meal in the wilderness. We arrange the most amazing set bush breakfasts and lunches at carefully selected areas offering guests the most spectacular view of the ranch, Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is the perfect surprise after an exciting early/late morning game drive. After a leisurely meal, your guide will escort you back to the camp at game-drive speed. The experience is sure to be unforgettable.
Day / Night Game Drive
Game drives in our open sides and high seats custom vehicle is an amazing African Safari experience that has our guests not only encountering the animals at the ranch but also the birdlife, landscapes, and stunning views of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. We also offer night game drive whereby the guests can explore the nocturnal animals which become active at night like aardvarks, porcupines, mongooses, etc. Our guide uses spotlight torches for clear viewing of the guests.
